After an 0-18 ACC campaign, the road to rebuilding got a little tougher for Jim Christian and Boston College men’s basketball. But some shrewd wheeling and dealing in the offseason have helped bring back some depth to Chestnut Hill.
On Wednesday evening, Christian landed the big man he’s been looking for in Delaware graduate transfer Maurice Jeffers. Zack Spears of Eagle Action first reported the move.
Jeffers is a 6-foot-9, 250-pound center who chose the Eagles over Miami (OH), South Carolina, and Georgia. He will join the program in the fall once he completes his undergraduate degree from Delaware this summer. In an interview with Eagle Action, his parents, Maurice Jeffers, Sr. and Robin Delk, described BC as a “perfect fit” for the style of play in the ACC as well as the academic opportunities in graduate education.
In his Delaware career, Jeffers played 77 games and started 45. He averaged 18.8 minutes per game, with 4.8 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. Last season as a part-time starter (29 games, 16 starts), Jeffers averaged 5.2 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game.
Christian also added Jordan Chatman, a 6-foot-5 guard from Brigham Young University. Unlike Connar Tava and Jeffers, who each have one year of eligibility, Chatman has three. The 23-year-old graduated BYU after a two-year mission in Taipei, Taiwan, and a redshirt season in 2014-15. In his first season of used eligibility (2015-16), Chatman played in 36 games and averaged 2.6 points per game on 38 percent shooting. The former Washington Boys Basketball Player of the Year was the No. 2 player in the state the year of his recruitment. He will add depth to the guard position after the Eagles lost Matt Milon and Sammy Barnes-Thompkins to external transfers.
