Boston College football fans’ longest awaited wish may have finally come true.
On Monday afternoon, BC announced that Director of Athletics Brad Bates has scheduled a home-and-home series with Stanford University for 2028 and 2029. The Eagles will welcome the Cardinals on Sept. 2, 2028 at Alumni Stadium, and will make the trip to Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 15, 2029. This will mark the fifth and sixth meetings in the history of these two programs. The two are 2-2 against one another from home-and-home series in 1979-1980 and 2001-2002. Each team won its respective home game in those series.
This scheduling, though many years down the road, will satisfy BC’s Power Five requirement for those two seasons. Beginning in 2017, all ACC schools must schedule one football game each season against a P5 or Notre Dame. Bates has fulfilled that requirement himself in 2018 and 2020 with a home-and-home against Purdue. Former AD Gene DeFilippo also scheduled P5s for the Eagles many years in advance, as they will play Notre Dame in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2025, and Ohio State in 2023 and 2024.
