“Both lecturing and discussion-based classes work, just as a professor you have to find your own authentic way of teaching,” Serazio said. “But if either side is not bringing energy, focus, curiosity, and passion, that doesn’t work. It has to be both.”
“An Asian American leader is able to use their previously lived experiences and turn that into tangible action,” Yun said. “And I think that all these initiatives and organizations that I’ve been a part of, they’re all ‘feel good’ moments where like, you actually feel you’re making an impact on campus. … I’m doing something for the community, but I’m also learning something while doing it.”
“When [Price] started talking, one of the first things she said was, ‘My father trafficked me when I was a child,’” Nanos said. “My jaw just dropped—it hit the floor.”
“In this weird twist of fate, out of something that was so evil and destructive, I got this glimpse into the really compassionate depths of humans,” Downes said. “It has supercharged me at times when I would otherwise have been really quite down and out. So I would love to find a way to bottle that all up and be able to give it to other people in their times of need as well.”
“If you want to go fast, go alone—if you want to go far, go together,” Nakash said. “There’s not just a divide among the students, there’s a divide between the students and admin as well. And if we can unite the Heights, or at the very least lay the foundation for the unification to take place, we can be the start of uniting the Heights.”
“By participating in a program like this, it really puts into words what many social workers are already doing in the communities,” Milton said. “It is able to frame their experiences in a way that is different from traditional westernized ways.”
“At the end of the day, they’re just turning a blind eye to something that’s obviously happening on campus,” Parra said. “So I think that that is a very ignorant way of treating a student body.”
If you’re anything like me, running around the Res makes you feel like a hamster in a wheel. When I set off on a run, I’m motivated not only by the desire to earn a new badge on my Garmin running watch, but also by my eagerness to explore the new path I configured for that day’s run.
“It begins with asking a question such as, ‘Why are people going hungry? Why is so much food going to waste?’” DeVoy said. “With this social issue in mind, a team then begins to develop a solution to this problem.”
Student outcry to changes within Boston College Dining is far from a new phenomenon. Rather, it spans several decades.
