Picture this: It’s Tuesday morning, and you’re anticipating Taylor Swift’s Good Morning America announcement. You, and the rest of Taylor Nation, are predicting a tour announcement, but you can’t be too confident. Many times over you have let Taylor Swift and her reputation for cryptic messaging get to your head, leading you to believe things like album releases and re-recordings are imminent. But this time, things are different. Taylor Swift gets on national television, announces her first stadium tour in five years, and suddenly, all of your wildest dreams have come true! But just like with any dream, you eventually wake up and are forced to face a less than picture-perfect reality.
An Extrovert on Being Alone
For my entire life, I’ve been known as “the loud kid.” Definitely not the one to be quiet and always the one looking to chat. As annoying as my elementary school teachers found my trademark personality trait, I feel as though it has served me well. Thanks to my loose lips, I’ve made more connections, asked more questions, and learned more than if I had chosen a less outgoing path. My propensity for conversation, however, has led to one small issue: I can’t handle being alone.
An Ode to College Application Season: My “Why BC?” Three Years After Applying
All of the campus visits, carefully crafted supplemental essays, and emails to BC admissions are made in a desperate hope to convey that you’re the “right choice.” But simultaneously, you might try to convince yourself that BC is truly the right place for you. So, three years after applying with two years of college in the rearview mirror, this is my “Why BC.” To my surprise, it’s wildly different from when I applied.
A Return to TV Time: The Case for Escapist Television
Since returning to school for the spring semester, I’ve caught myself indulging in a new guilty pleasure. But unlike the typical guilty pleasure, I’m more than happy to share it with all of you. Usually, my drug of choice is candy, ice cream, or anything that has enough sugar in it to kill a small…
Spring Break: Stuck Choosing Between a Rock and a Warm Place
On a cold December afternoon, one of my roommates walked into my room, gesturing at her phone and a GroupMe titled “BAHAMAS 2022” that included roughly 200 members of our class, and said, “So, are you going or not?” At that moment, sitting at my desk in my Walsh eight-man, I realized I needed to…
What Your Favorite Lunch Spot Says About You – Boston College Edition
Rising sun this, astrology that, let’s talk about the real defining characteristic of individuals on this campus: choice of dining hall. You may be wondering, “Cameron, what makes you think that you can draw broad conclusions about a person based on where they eat lunch?” And to that I say, because I can. Boston College…
A Love Letter to Walsh Hall
In the quiet of my suburban home over break, I had the opportunity to do lots of thinking. There is nothing like a month at home with few scheduled obligations and inconsistent responsibilities to bring out the inner philosopher in everyone. Although my mind tends to wander from topics like “What will I be doing…
Boston College Has a Bad Case of Burnout
Checking in with friends from high school is always a little bit like conducting a social experiment. You ask them what their classes are like, what clubs they’re involved in, and just generally what they’ve been up to, and in the back of your mind, you make comparisons about your life at Boston College and…
It’s Not A Race, It’s a Marathon: Expectations Vs. Reality of Marathon Monday
Marathon Monday is a Boston College tradition like no other. To be brief, it’s a day that captures the “highlight reel” of all the other BC traditions: think the chaos of a tailgate combined with the school spirit of the Red Bandana Game. Except, is a tradition really a tradition if three quarters of the…
Coughing on Campus: The BC Plague
I remember the night that everything went wrong. Just like every other night, I was sitting in my twin XL bed mindlessly scrolling through social media, responding to emails, and of course, checking Herrd. Normally, checking Herrd means that I silently cackle at a variety of different, sort of stupid (but still funny) posts as…
