“To move forward from here, we’ll need to add additional sections of classes, and we hope to do that in the next few years, so that we might be able to open the major to all students, without an application,” said Robert Murphy, the program’s director.
“You have to be careful in bringing in new faculty, because once you commit to them, they could be here 30, 40 years,” said Vice Provost of Faculties Billy Soo.
“We certainly think it is a problem, but not a problem that is insuperable,” said Susan Shell, chair of the political science department.
“It was a Tuesday night, and I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize,” Deaette said. “It was Fr. Leahy calling to congratulate me.”
“The fact that we come from different backgrounds both socially and financially makes this campus unique, so it’s hard to see how this portion of the BC community’s needs are being overlooked at one of the most memorable portions of their undergraduate experience,” said Lauren Kaufman, CSOM ’18.
“To me, the Romero Scholarship is not a spotlight, but a reminder,” said Juan Mejia, MCAS ’19. “A reminder of my and our duty as humans to realize that we are agents of history, and in our hands are the tools to rectify injustices.”
“I think having general principles and boundaries is a good policy, but there should be always room for flexibility depending on the circumstances and particular cases,” said Juan Montes, assistant professor of the practice in CSOM.
The total cost of attendance, including fees and room and board, will rise to $69,942, increasing 3.6 percent from the 2017-18 level.
“We didn’t even know if we had a problem,” said Ronnie Sadka, CSOM’s senior associate dean for faculty. “They found that we did suffer from it.”
