It hit me for the first time this week that come the end of the semester, I’d actually be going home—and I felt sick. But, at the same exact time, I’m homesick too. There’s a three-way-tug-of-war among loving where I am, missing home, and also being scared to go back home.
Thumbs Up: Election Results:
Regardless of who you voted for, we can all agree that this five day election-marathon was emotionally exhausting. The back and forth between multiple news sources made for an extremely stressful election and constant tab-refreshing. Final election results mean we can officially say goodbye to this century-long week in which every email started with, “In these trying times.”
While the University should properly communicate with students regarding how changing state rules will affect on-campus life, students should make sure that they are fully aware of what the rules entail in order to be responsible citizens.
Aside from the Weeks of Welcome, classes have been a new and exciting experience across the board. Although I do believe I’ve truly missed the feeling of being in a real classroom, in general, students are very kind and eager to meet others, even over Zoom.
Thumbs Up: Voting! We cannot stress this enough: Please vote! Your voice matters, and this may be one of the most important elections in our lifetime. If you can vote, then it is your civic responsibility to do so. If you’re voting in-person on election day in Massachusetts, polls open anywhere from 5:45 am to 7 am and close at 8 pm.
I began the investigation into these numbers two years ago when I was a reporter, not a columnist, for The Heights. The benefit of sharing this information in the form of a column rather than a news article is that I can say, without penalty: These numbers are insane. They are insulting. They are exploitative.
The upcoming election will be different from any other election in recent history. It is unclear whether the country will know who won the election on the night of Nov. 3. In anticipation of the upcoming week, The Heights would like to point readers to reliable sources of information, answer questions about the election, and clear up common misconceptions.
