Notebook: Linebacker Writing Luke’s Gospel Of Defense

After recording 21 tackles against the Duke Blue Devils, the accolades are starting to pour in for Luke Kuechly. Following his impressive Week 11 performance, Kuechly was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week and was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award given to the Football Writers Association of America’s most outstanding defensive player.

Former Walk-On Energizes Eagles

His progress, like any other walk-on’s, has come in stages. As a freshman, he practiced with the scout team, redshirting because he wasn’t yet ready to play in games. As a sophomore, he finally saw the field, but only when the scholarship players’ days were complete. Even as a junior, he earned a scholarship, but saw only limited action as a backup linebacker.

Nobody in Scott Stadium could figure it out. No one – reporters, fans, coaches, and administrators – knew exactly who was responsible for making the play. But everyone on Boston College’s side sure was glad that somebody did.

Kuechly Tackles Challenges As A Freshman

He’s the student that lives in Fitzpatrick, struggles with laundry, and worries about his business classes. While it may sound like it, he is actually anything but your average Carroll School of Management freshman. His name is Luke Kuechly, and it just so happens that among the daily routine of every other freshman, he finds time to lead the Boston College football team with 94 tackles.

Eagles prepare for another flashy win

Northeastern running back John Griffin began his season by taking the ball from his quarterback and meeting Boston College defensive lineman Alex Albright and linebacker Luke Kuechly, who tackled him for a two-yard loss. Two more plays and BC had forced its first punt of the season after allowing just three positive yards.
