The search is finally over-Boston College has its new Athletic Director. Fifty-three days after Gene DeFilippo announced his retirement as AD, Brad Bates will be introduced today as the new AD on the Heights, a BC source has confirmed to The Heights.
Entering this past weekend of games, Boston College middle linebacker Nick Clancy led all of college football with 43 tackles. More than half of those were racked up in last Saturday’s contest against Northwestern, where his 24-tackle performance earned him ACC player of the week honors. But if it weren’t for an injury during Clancy’s junior year of high school, he might not have even played football in college.
The Boston College softball team (22-26, 2-16 ACC) was swept at home by the University of Maryland (32-18, 8-7 ACC) this weekend, losing a doubleheader 4-3 and 4-1 on Saturday and dropping the final game, 11-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Even though the top two picks in the 2012 NFL draft are already known to be quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, former Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly may be the best player at his position in the draft.
Although Luke Kuechly is an undeniable talent and has plenty of potential as an NFL prospect, he should not be a top-10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Top-10 picks at any position, not just linebacker, are reserved for players who will come in and make a huge, sweeping impact on a franchise.
They had their eyes on it all season. They were never caught looking past a single game, but the National Championship trophy was always in their peripherals. Now, that trophy is in their hands.

It may still be hockey time at Boston College, but football season isn’t far off. With the bubble over Alumni Stadium finally gone, the Eagles turn their attention to the 20th annual Jay McGillis Spring Game, which will be played this Saturday at 1 p.m.
Yesterday, Alumni Stadium played host to a local area Pro Day with scouts from 27 NFL teams. The main attraction was former Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly. Kuechly, who finished his career as the program’s leader in tackles, spent the week at BC after training in Florida for the past three months.
Should he stay or should he go? Boston College football fans everywhere will ask this question in reference to star middle linebacker Luke Kuechly. As the semester comes to a close and the pressure of finals rises, rest assured that Kuechly is probably in a much more stressful situation: declaring for the spring’s NFL draft or remaining for his senior season.
