It seems strange to imagine a United States where democracy is no longer its rallying cry—a United States where protests against taxation without representation are confined to the history books rather than reenacted in the streets and universities. But according to Philip Gordon, the United States might already be there.
In a lecture on Oct. 26, Leary spoke of her work in the Obama and Biden administrations to pass initiatives centered around achieving equity in the country. The event was co-sponsored by the Mental Health Counseling Urban Scholars Program, the Donovan Urban Teaching Scholars Program, and the Center for Psychological Humanities and Ethics.
Gina McCarthy, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the Obama administration, came to speak at Boston College on Tuesday in the wake of recent rollbacks by the Trump Administration of many Obama-era EPA policies.
“A majority of the stories are by women and by people of color—13 of the 18 stories. Contributors also include immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, Muslim-Americans, and veterans,” said Dan Ponsetto, director of the Volunteer and Service Learning Center.
Various aspects of President Donald Trump’s federal budget mimic the budget requests of his Democratic predecessor.
“There’s a fine line to walk between fear-mongering alarmism and dispassionate, levelheaded advocacy. Both sides obscure progress by politicizing the issue and failing to compromise.”
