Laast has worked tirelessly for the last four years to incite conversation about race issues on campus. Her efforts have been noticed by several groups including the Thea Bowman AHANA and Intercultural Center and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Committee.

The State of Race: UGBC, Admin Prioritized Dialogue, Culture Shift Over Policy Change
Throughout the course of the year, discontent on campus with regards to race led UGBC and the administration to open up dialogue on these issues but they were unable to change much of the University’s policies.
