Former Newton Fire Department Chief of Operations Gregory Gentile was named the city’s newest fire chief following the retirement of Gino Lucchetti, who held the position until this week. The position oversees a department consisting of 199 personnel across six fire stations, as well as a 2022 budget of $26.5 million, according to the brochure. The chief will also lead Newton’s emergency operations center.
Lee Gilliam filed a lawsuit against the City of Newton and the Newton Fire Department on June 17, 2021. In the complaint, Gilliam requested compensation for emotional distress caused by a hostile work environment due to racism.
