Boston College will not rescind an honorary degree it gave Bill Cosby, one of America’s best-loved entertainers, following his conviction on Thursday, according to University Spokesman Jack Dunn. Boston University, Tufts University, Amherst College, and Fordham University all rescinded similar awards in 2015.
“As a matter of policy, we do not rescind honorary degrees, which are given to individuals based on their accomplishments at the time of the award,” Dunn told The Boston Globe.
On Thursday, a jury found Cosby guilty of drugging and molesting a woman in 2004, as reported by The New York Times. Over a span of five decades, dozens of women have accused him of sexual assault.
Cosby was given the degree in 1996 to honor his work as an actor and comedian, as well as his contributions to education.
