Boston College women’s basketball senior guard Makayla Dickens entered the transfer portal on Thursday with one remaining year of eligibility.
Mitchell Northam broke the news on Twitter just hours before BC’s tipoff against Columbia in the National Invitation Tournament.
Dickens spent the first four years of her NCAA career at BC and started 64 games in that time. She ranks fifth all time in program 3-pointers and scored 277 points this season. The senior scored double-digit points 13 times this season, recording a season-high 21 points against Albany on Nov. 28.
Hailing from Virginia Beach, Va., Dickens played her first season as an Eagle in 2018–19. She played in 30 games as a freshman and averaged 11.8 points per game while also making the All-ACC Academic Team and the All-ACC Freshman Team.
Dickens started the last 22 games of her sophomore campaign. As a junior, she further established her position as a regular starter. Dickens led BC in 3-pointers her junior year with 54 while also ranking second in both assists and minutes per game.
Despite averaging a career-low 22.4 minutes per game this season and only starting one game, Dickens sits at third on the roster in points per game with 9.2 and second in 3-pointers with 52.
Dickens only played eight minutes in BC’s game against Quinnipiac, but her reduced playing time does not appear to reflect a downturn in on-court play. Dickens shot 40.6 percent from the field this season and 35.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Prior to her career as an Eagle, Dickens played for Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach as a junior and as a senior, where she averaged 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds per game. She played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Lakeland High School, where averaged 22 points a game. She earned team MVP honors both years at Lakeland.
