Quarterback Dylan Lonergan announced that he will enter the transfer portal in a post on his personal Instagram account.
“Thank you Boston College for the opportunity to play and grow as a player and person,” Lonergan wrote. “I’ve decided I will be entering the transfer portal when it opens. We didn’t get the results we hoped for this year but very appreciative to my teammates and coaches who never stopped battling and the BC community and fans for all the support.”
Lonergan threw for 2,025 yards and 12 touchdowns while appearing in 10 games for BC this season.
Lonergan transferred to BC in spring 2025 after spending two years at Alabama, then won the starting job over senior Grayson James to begin the season.
Through the first three games of the season, Lonergan threw for nine touchdowns and one interception. In the three games following, he recorded no touchdown passes and two picks.
Lonergan was benched for James before BC’s game against UConn on Oct. 18. The change came after the Eagles suffered five consecutive losses, including a 41–10 home loss to Clemson the week before.
He reemerged as BC’s starter against Georgia Tech on Nov. 15, throwing for 362 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in the Eagles’ narrow loss.
Lonergan also started the Eagles’ final game of the season, but came out early in the first quarter due to a thumb injury. James entered the game and led BC to its second win of the season.
