Welcome to The Heights‘ coverage of the 2018 Beanpot Tournament, where, once again, the college hockey world will focus in on four Boston-area teams as they battle it out in the annual competition—one that includes eight total games, spanning from Feb. 5-13. MEN’S HOCKEY: 66th ANNUAL BEANPOT

Last season, Harvard pulled off the improbable, beating Northeastern and Boston University in consecutive weeks to win its first Beanpot since 1993. This year, the Crimson are arguably the weakest team in the bracket, albeit not by much. All four teams rank within the top 25 of Pairwise Rankings, with Northeastern leading the way at No. 14. The Huskies are looking to end a title-less streak of their own, having last claimed the trophy back in 1988. WOMEN’S HOCKEY: 40th ANNUAL BEANPOT

The last few years, to no surprise, the Beanpot has been Boston College’s to lose. The Eagles have won the last two tournaments and five of the last nine, an unprecedented run of dominance under head coach Katie Crowley. Again, BC is the top team in the field, but faces a stiff test in Tuesday’s opening round. Northeastern, after all, is one of just two teams that has managed to beat the Eagles this year.
