Boston College women’s basketball had no answers for Quinnipiac’s efficient offense on Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles’ losing streak continued with a blowout loss at home.
The Eagles’ (4–7) defense could not stop Quinnipiac (4–3) as the Bobcats came away with a 76–49 win.
BC has lost six of its last seven games after starting the season 3–1.
While Amirah Anderson led the Eagles with 14 points in her second straight double-digit outing, Quinnipiac’s shooting sank BC’s chances as the Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field and drained 10 threes.
Three different Eagles made layups to give BC an early lead, but the Eagles’ momentum ended there. Quinnipiac responded with a quick 15–0 run over a five-minute stretch to put the score at 19–6.
The Eagles were able to get five points back before the end of the quarter, and the first period came to an end with them trailing 19–11.
BC launched an offensive attack early on in the second quarter, cutting the lead to six points to make it 22–16 with 8:37 to go in the half. The Bobcats once again found an answer, though, holding the Eagles scoreless for the next four minutes while scoring eight points of their own.
Anderson hit a 3-pointer to break BC’s scoring drought with 4:35 to go. She ended the game 2 of 6 from three.
The two sides traded baskets for the rest of the half, but Quinnipiac put up the last four points of the period and headed into halftime with a 38–24 lead.
Quinnipiac picked up where it left off and started the second half on an 8–0 run, stretching its lead to 22. That is where it hovered for the rest of the third quarter as both teams went on a few short runs, but BC never cut the lead below 18 points after the 8:08 mark.
The Eagles trailed 61–40 going into the fourth, and their worst offensive quarter of the game did not help them put a dent in that lead.
Yet another 8–0 run for Quinnipiac started the period, and the game eventually came to a close with the Eagles down 27.
Three-point shooting was the killer for BC, as its own 4-of-17 mark did not offset Quinnipiac’s 10-of-26 performance. The Eagles’ bench scored 32 points in the blowout loss.
