UGBC announced the next steps for implementing an adviser match form that will pair students with advisers best aligned with their career goals in a meeting on Tuesday night.

“I’ve been meeting with Kristin [Reed] and the academic advising department, as well as her boss, just finalizing the adviser-advisee matching form and expectation sheet, just like making sure that all looks good,” said Makayla Boxwell, student senator and MCAS ’28. 

The expectation sheet, which will act as a contract between advisers and advisees, will be proposed to department heads from the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at a luncheon on April 29. According to Vice President Reagan Marino, MCAS ’26, the purpose of the sheet is to agree upon “baseline” expectations.

“In terms of the expectation sheet, it just allows for more of a genuine advising connection,” Marino wrote in a statement to The Heights. “Your academic advisor should not just be about checking a box, it should be an opportunity for mentorship within students’ journeys at BC.”

Marino did not elaborate further on what the expectation sheet would include.

UGBC has explored implementing the academic advising form since last April, with the final hurdle being approval from department heads. 

“Then hopefully, after that, they’ll like it enough to kind of use it in their department,” said Boxwell. 

UGBC spent the majority of the meeting completing a yearly reflection activity and viewing a presentation on the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference before adjourning.
