Boston College will close Monday due to the snowstorm that has brought over a foot of snow to campus, the University announced this evening.
“Due to the storm, Boston College will be closed and classes cancelled on Monday, January 26,” an urgent BC Alert stated.
The announcement marks the first time that BC has canceled classes due to extreme weather in nearly eight years, when a nor’easter brought nearly 15 inches of snow to the Boston area.
BC suspended its shuttle services at 2 p.m. Sunday, citing safety concerns for both passengers and drivers.
BC’s decision follows closures at both Newton and Boston Public Schools, as well as at Boston University, Tufts University, and Northeastern University.
As the storm approached, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey urged state residents to stay off the road over the weekend due to frigid temperatures and Sunday’s snowfall.
The storm began Sunday morning and is expected to continue into much of Monday, bringing up to two feet of snow to Massachusetts. The intense storm is the first time since 2022 that Boston has received over 6 inches of snowfall.
