UGBC confirmed a plethora of new Senate roles and executive positions at its final meeting of this academic year Tuesday night, led by Addie Weiss, incoming vice president and MCAS ’27.
New division directors in all eight of UGBC’s divisions were confirmed:
Ayrion Gordon-Jackson, MCAS ’27 — director of AHANA+ Leadership Council
Freddy Osborne, MCAS ’27 — director of Communications
Matthew Wleklinski, MCAS ’27 — director of Council for Students with Disabilities
Ali Burns, MCAS ’27 — director of Environmental Sustainability
Allie Lasch, MCAS ’27 — director of Finance
Julia Covello, MCAS ’27— director of Student Initiatives
Colin Snyder, MCAS ’27 — director of Queer Leadership Council
Notably, Snyder ran for vice president but lost the bid during the 2026 UGBC presidential election.
Snyder was the only division director not to be confirmed unanimously. James Knight, student senator and CSOM ’29, was the lone dissenting vote.
“I had concerns about a comment made by the Oliver-Snyder campaign during the 2026 election,” wrote Knight in a statement to The Heights.
Knight added that he could not further discuss his concerns with Snyder due to Snyder’s absence from Tuesday’s meeting.
“Appointments were only shared with Senators immediately prior to the meeting so I did not have time to reach out to him personally to seek clarification,” Knight wrote. “As such, I did not feel comfortable publicly voting for his appointment.”
Knight stated he had no further comment on his specific concerns with the Oliver-Snyder campaign and considered it a “closed matter” because Snyder had been confirmed.
The Senate also confirmed Paula Muiño Vazquez, CSOM ’28, and Bradley Perlman, MCAS ’28, as senators for the Class of 2028.
Perlman unsuccessfully ran for a Senate seat in the most recent UGBC election. Both he and Vasquez applied for semester-long Senate appointments. Their applications were reviewed and accepted by Weiss, according to Reagan Marino, current UGBC vice president and MCAS ’27.
Afterward, the Senate confirmed three special-interest seats: transfer student representative, Montserrat student representative, and international student representative.
Alena Laurent, MCAS ’28 — transfer student representative
Sophie Wong, LSEHD ’28 — international student representative
Nina Hemsey, MCAS ’27 — Montserrat student representative
Five students could not be confirmed for special interest and general Senate seats due to scheduling conflicts with Tuesday’s meeting.
UGBC also nominated and confirmed its committee chairs for the fall and spring semester of the 2026–2027 academic year.
UGBC has three senate committees: academic affairs, student life, and intersectionality.
Sophie Wong, LSEHD ’28 — fall semester academic affairs committee chair
Ashley Varacalli, MCAS ’28 — spring semester academic affairs committee chair.
Emily Prucher, MCAS ’28 — fall semester student life committee chair
Jordan Doty, LSEHD ’28 — spring semester academic affairs committee chair
Will Cortes, MCAS ’28 — fall and spring semester intersectionality committee (IC) chair
Cortes has served as IC chair since the beginning of the spring semester, succeeding Will Rafti, MCAS ’27, who vacated the role to study abroad.
Jonah Renz, incoming president and CSOM ’27, shared his thoughts on next year at the meeting’s close.
“I’m really excited to be working with you all, whether that’s over the course of the summer in the retreat or throughout all of next year,” said Renz. “This is a really exciting room, such great work.”
