BC vs. Iona
BC beat Iona 3–0 on Saturday as the Eagles tallied 39 kills and 11 blocks. Audrey Ross and Sofija Marjanovic combined for 21 kills en route to a third-straight win that keeps BC undefeated so far this season.
BC vs. Stonehill
It took time for Boston College volleyball to improve its serves in its game against Stonehill on Friday. But once it did, the Eagles were rolling. Late in the first set, the Eagles recorded five service aces and finished the set on a 7–3 run.
In the final set, however, the Eagles struggled to land serves as BC had five errors and no aces.
The fifth service error allowed Stonehill to come within three points of BC’s lead. Yet, the Eagles (2–0) brushed off the service issues and ultimately won the third set to beat Stonehill (0–2) 3–0 on Friday.
“I think we were pretty timid from the service line early on,” BC volleyball head coach Jason Kennedy said. “And then as we started to get more aggressive, we’re able to keep them off the net, keep them off-system, and then be able to run some transition points down.”
Stonehill made ten attacking errors in the third set. BC led 2–0 to begin the set because the Skyhawks could not send over a returnable ball.
“I think our blocking got a lot better,” Kennedy said. “Obviously, if we start blocking them a few times, they’re going to try to swing something different that maybe they’re not as used to, or they’re not as comfortable doing it. And I think that led to quite a few errors down the stretch for them.”
Sam Hoppes helped spark the BC offense in the third set as she blasted a kill between two Skyhawks in the back row before they could make much of a reaction to make it 9–7 BC.
“I think that’s going to be a point of emphasis for us all year,” Kennedy said. “You know, I think we’ve got a couple of elite arms on that side. I think it was a good matchup for them to take advantage of as their blockers and what our offense was able to do.”
Sofija Marjanovic led BC in points in her first collegiate game and recorded nine kills and one error on 15 attacks.
“I thought she did a good job of capitalizing on the few balls that she had in-system and then being able to manage the others for points. Anytime you get a left-side hitting for a .550, .600 clip, you know, that’s something that’s pretty impressive.”
BC vs. NJIT
Boston College won its season-opener 3–0 over New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Sophomore Isabelle Poehlein played three sets for the first time in her career and recorded 11 kills. Poehlein recorded only one error over 19 attacks.
Lucy Mott recorded a personal-best 20 assists, while NJIT recorded 25 assists as a team.
Both teams performed the worst statistically in the second set as the Eagles had their worst hitting percentage and least number of kills. But NJIT committed 10 errors, allowing BC to win the set, and ultimately the match.
