2020-21 Schedule (Note: Italicization denotes HEA play):
Nov. 20 vs. New Hampshire (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) *Home Opener
→ Boston College men’s hockey will open up its all-Hockey East season against New Hampshire in Chestnut Hill. While there won’t be any fans in Conte Forum, the Eagles are still expected to perform well this season as they are currently ranked second nationally, according to USA Hockey’s preseason polls. BC’s all-time series against UNH is one of its closer ones, with the Eagles just barely leading 45-41-13. The home opener against the Wildcats will be the 100th contest between the two teams.
Nov. 21 at New Hampshire (Durham, N.H.)
Nov. 27 at Providence (Providence, R.I.)
→ The Eagles’ second home-and-home of the season starts against the Friars on the road. Providence, one of three teams BC will play two weekend series against—the two others being UNH and Boston University—gave the Eagles trouble early on during the shortened 2019-20 season, handing them a tough 2-6 loss.
Nov. 28 vs. Providence (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
Dec. 4 at UMass Lowell (Lowell, Mass.)
→ BC and UMass Lowell split their season series last year, each team defeating the other on the road. Shortly after its frustrating performance against BU in the first round of the Beanpot, the Eagles faced the Riverhawks for their second competition of the season. Despite having been the team to open the scoring off a powerplay goal from now-sophomore Alex Newhook, BC couldn’t get an edge, falling 2-3 in regulation.
Dec. 5 vs. UMass Lowell (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
Dec. 11 vs. UConn (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
→ As one of the newer teams to Hockey East, UConn hasn’t faced the Eagles as often as some of the other teams, but that hasn’t stopped BC from completely dominating the Huskies. Leading the all-time series 9-2-1, the Eagles swept the season series against UConn last winter with a 6-0 shutout at home and a 5-1 victory on the road.
Dec 12. at UConn (Storrs, Conn.)
Jan. 8 vs. Northeastern (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
→ While BC didn’t face Northeastern in the Beanpot last season, the Eagles blew the then-Beanpot champions out of the water with two incredible back-to-back victories after the tournament. After securing a close 3-2 win on the road, the Eagles took the Huskies home for a dominating 10-1 victory, with eight separate players tallying points against three different NU goaltenders.
Jan. 9 at Northeastern (Boston, Mass.)
Jan. 15 at Massachusetts (Amherst, Mass.)
→ The Minutemen have been the Eagles’ closest contenders for the past two seasons. Currently ranked No. 7 nationally per USA Hockey, UMass is once again gearing up to compete with BC for the top-ranked team in Hockey East. The Eagles, however, decisively took last year’s season series 2-1, including a 6-3 road victory and a 3-0 shutout at the end of January to earn the top spot in Hockey East.
Jan. 16 vs. Massachusetts (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
Jan. 22 vs. Merrimack (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
→ The Eagles and the Warriors competed three times during last year’s shortened season with BC claiming each victory in a decisive fashion. The final contest the teams played came at the end of February, shortly before the season was called. Then-freshmen Matt Boldy led the Eagles with two goals and three points on the night to hand the team a solid 6-1 win over Merrimack. With 81 all-time games played between these two teams, the Eagles currently hold a 53-21-7 lead.
Jan. 23 at Merrimack (North Andover, Mass.)
Jan. 29 vs. Vermont (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
→ After facing the Catamounts three times during its 2019-20 campaign, BC will only play Vermont twice this season during the allotted back-to-back series in January. During those three games, however, the Eagles dominated Vermont and swept the season series 3-0. The final contest between the two was one of BC’s strongest games of the year, taking down the Catamounts 8-3 as the team flexed its offensive depth.
Jan. 30 vs. Vermont (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
Feb. 5 vs. New Hampshire (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) *Tentative Opponent
Feb. 6 at New Hampshire (Durham, N.H.) *Tentative Opponent
Feb. 12 vs. Boston University (Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
→ The Eagles won’t face long-time rival BU until late in the season with their home-and-home coming in mid-February. Last time these two teams met at Conte Forum, BC beat the Terriers in a fast-paced 4-3 victory that was supposed to preview their matchup in the Beanpot the next month. That wasn’t the case, however, as the two teams tied in regulation only for the Eagles to fall 5-4 in double overtime.
Feb. 13 at Boston University (Boston, Mass.)
Feb. 19 vs. Providence (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) *Tentative Opponent

Mar. 5 at Maine (Orono, Maine)
→ The final series of the Eagles’ 2020-21 season is back-to-back games on the road against Maine. While currently leading the Black Bears in the all-time series, 51-39-9, BC suffered a series sweep against Maine with two disappointing overtime losses at home. Maine goaltender Jeremy Swayman was a force to be reckoned with, shutting the door on the Eagles after the Black Bears stole the lead.
